Dating Advice for Women Over 40
As a woman who’s in the 40+ dating market, you’re naturally inclined to want to find a mate, maybe more quickly than usual. While younger women can accomplish this task by dating actively for a few years, the older women feels like the clock is ticking, and may need to speed up the process a little by trying online dating, or getting some dating advice for older women.
However, as you probably already know, dating is full of pitfalls that can pretty much ruin your enjoyment of the whole experience.
Here is some dating advice for older women that will help you survive – and possibly even enjoy – your dating adventure.
Be rational. Dating may be an inherently emotional experience, but it doesn’t mean that you should throw your logic out the window. Being rational is quite probably the cardinal rule of dating. Since women are usually more emotional, it is just too easy to get caught up in people and things that you may regret later. The best dating advice for women over 40 that I can give is to try NOT to hurry things along. Don’t just settle for whatever comes along. Be as rational with dating as you are with other things in your life.
Watch Out for the Pick-Up Line. Another important piece of dating advice for older women is to recognize that most men (both older and younger), when going out on a date, will do everything they can to charm and seduce the woman involved. After thousands of years of practice, men have a general idea of what makes women swoon. If you are not careful, you can fall for someone who really isn’t what he claims to be. This is where your rational self comes into play again. Is he just giving you a tried and true pick-up line, or does he really mean what he’s saying. It may take awhile to get a handle on this one, but your intuition will soon give you hints on what’s real, and what’s a bunch of BS!
Don’t trust appearances. There’s an old saying that says that “You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.” This pithy (if trite) altruism has a lot of truth in it. It is also eminently applicable to dates.
When on a date, both men and women attempt to put their best foot forward. Both parties try to be at their best. Physical appearance, attitudes, and personality become increasingly important to older daters.
Because of this, what you “see” in someone may not really even be there – it could all be a show. So don’t be in a rush to judge someone based on one or two dates. If you are really serious about a certain relationship, give it time to unfold. Rushing in headlong is almost always a mistake. After you’ve been on a few dates, the dating advice for older women is to check out the man’s humble abode (without notice). If you go to his house when he is not expecting visitors, you’ll get a real feel for what’s really on the inside.
And, as always, be careful. Dating advice for women over 40 in this area isn’t any different for the younger crowd. You shouldn’t trust anyone at first. As a woman, it is very likely that there will be men around you who will not exactly have good intentions. Find out as much as you can about your new relationship before going somewhere alone with him.
When going out on a date, be sure to let friends or family know where you are, who you’re going out with, and what time you expect to be back. This seems silly since you’re older now, but it still applies. And, if possible, introduce your date to someone that you know beforehand.
Remember, the key is balance. Dating advice for older women dictates that while you shouldn’t be available to everybody, you shouldn’t be inaccessible to anyone either. Dating can stressful, but it can also be a lot of fun. After all, you will be meeting a variety of people from all walks of life. You might even learn something as you go along!
